A Private Server is an unlicensed, and unofficial game server created and run by private parties that are not affiliated with the official game developers.

About Private Servers

Private servers are usually created by writing or using custom emulation software which mimics the behavior of an official game server. For this reason, players are experiencing a third party product that may have new or different features and bugs from the official servers. Some servers offer incentives or advantages to play upon them such as custom or new items, access to cheap or free items and equipment, boosted experience rates and drop rates, access to inaccessible areas, ability to go past the level cap, instant level cap, or even Game Master powers for certain users.

Server Software

The most popular publicly available Emil Chronicle Online private server software is SagaECO, an ECO server emulator created by a group of Chinese players. SagaECO is written in C# based on the Microsoft .NET framework. SagaECO is designed to run on systems running the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Legal Concerns

Generally, private servers are not legal. Creating a server emulator requires reverse engineering a licensed game server by either decompiling the game client or "sniffing" the communications between the client and the server. Reverse engineering, decompiling and sniffing are almost always breaches of a license agreement, law, or both.

The game client has to be patched to connect to a private server. Modifying the game client in this way is almost always a breach of a license agreement, law, or both.
